Days Without Walls
On the last week of school, grades 4 through 12 embarked on an adventure during GSN’s Days Without Walls program, an exciting educational excursion.
During this educational outing, students participate in service learning, team building, cultural exploration, and outdoor activities with peers and teachers. To ensure safety, GSN partners with an international travel agency that provides multiple chaperones, trained in First Aid safety procedures to accompany students through all activities, in addition to GSN chaperones. The name “Days Without Walls” reflects on the belief that education and learning processes should not be limited to the classroom environment. The real-world connection and hands-on experience are proven methods of better learning.
For the DWW excursions Georgia School utilizes an internationally certified, outdoor excursion company. This year GSN Lions enjoyed two full days at a camp in Yuyao. Packed with entertainment, the children had the opportunity to rock climb, kayak, learn and practice archery, build a catapult, and go on a thrilling 4km hike in the woods. In between every session, a variety of team building games were taught and children could put into practice GSN’s 5 Agreements with each other and their instructors. Mixing age groups allowed students to form bonds with other classmates, enhancing communication and interaction skills outside of the school campus. Being in a new environment also provides more opportunities for children to challenge their potential and explore new activities, finding out a new hobby or talent!
There are several advantages connected to GSN’s Days Without Walls program. While for the children it may look like pure fun, they are constantly immersed in a different learning environment. Other than that, field trips provide a great stress-relief and have the power to raise students’ moods, especially at the end of the school year. Children are presented with tremendous refreshing activities that breaks the monotony of the classroom, and they get multiple opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge in different places.
The trip ended with story-telling, marshmallow roasting, and sing-along songs around a beautiful campfire! Lions, are you ready for next year’s adventure?
