GSN Debate Team - Zhejiang Tournament
Georgia School Ningbo (GSN) offers a variety of clubs and activities for students to join and develop new skills, values and abilities. One of the popular clubs at Georgia is the Debate Club, composed by a group of sixth and seventh graders. Lead by Ms. Nida, the students have weekly meetings on Thursday's after school to work on their topics and practice effective debate strategies. Set up in a mock-style of actual competitions, with set partners and timed speeches, the students are able to have an idea of what it feels like to be in a real debate, discussing effective matters that have an impact in our world.
Georgia students are currently preparing their pro and con arguments in regards to the prohibition of nuclear weapons, which will be discussed during the Hangzhou Regional Tournament, on November 16-17. Recently, the students from the Debate Club had the privilege to participate in a workshop with David Weeks, founder and president of the National High School Debate Club of China. David was present at GSN to talk about techniques, strategies and tips on how to achieve a positive performance during a debate competition. Our students were engaged in the talk and curious about how to improve themselves for the future!
Skills Development
One of Georgia's praised Learner Outcomes is to be an effective communicator. Participating in the Debate Club not only develops outstanding communication skills, but it is also extremely beneficial for an academic resume. According to professionals, it helps a students' application stand out among hundreds of others. GSN students are able to choose from a variety of opportunities as After School Activities; and each of them allows for personal, social and academic growth, guaranteeing a successful path for our kids.
