United Nations Day at GSN
Languages, foods, music, dances, people. A mix of human intellect that creates the most beautiful aspect of life: diversity. When contrasting cultures unite as a community, there is a blooming range of learning opportunities for both children and adults. We are Georgia, and this is United Nations (UN) Day!
One world, one school
There is no better way to end the week than celebrating each other and taking pride in where we come from. From the United States to Korea, Sudan to Malaysia and from Brazil to China, Georgia School Ningbo is one family composed of over 15 countries. Together, we cover the entire globe and share our culture.
The United Nations
The United Nations began in 1945 by a group of countries, including China, that recognized that only through consultation, and policies centered around mutual respect, can wars and strive be averted and balance and peace be protected. Today, the UN is an international organization of 193 countries that cooperate in battling the troubles of our world, with the objective to advocate international peace and collective security, which is its fundamental foundation. The United Nations also promotes development and provides humanitarian assistance to those in need, working to protect basic human rights.
MUN at GSN
At GSN, 28 students actively participate in a group called Model United Nations (MUN), an academic simulation of the United Nations. At MUN, students are immersed in an environment where they represent an acting country of the United Nations. They have the chance to brainstorm about plausible solutions to a variety of world crises, discussing possibilities for better progress. With effective critical thinking involved, MUN sets positive challenges for our students to improve their writing, speaking and leadership skills.
“The poetic power of this phase is a reminder to all that, when we interact with one another, we must always remember to treat the interaction with the respect and kindness of a conversation among family members.”
- Mr. Cavon
Georgia School celebrates culture by cultivating its exceptional diversity. We each take pride in our homeland and culture, but also learn to love about the cultures and customs of other lands. Through our Five Agreements, the school nurtures students into becoming thoughtful leaders of tomorrow’s world.
