Happy International Women’s Day
March 8th is International Women’s Day! On IWD, China, the United Nations and countries around the world commemorate the social, economic, technological, academic and literary accomplishments and contributions of women to humanity. The day also serves as a call to action towards greater social equality for women and girls. (IWD).
All GSN teachers are committed to educating students on the priceless role that women have played in history, and in modern times, and the need to strive toward greater social equality and justice for women and girls. Georgia School is proud to have its aims driven by exemplary women! The women of GSN were asked to describe, in one word, what it means to be a woman, please listen to their thoughtful responses in the video below!
International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s and is an opportunity to inspire and educate children about the role of women in society. As Admissions Representative, Marina Albernaz, mentions, “IWD is a day to remember the efforts and sacrifices made by women of the past, that enabled generations of women to obtain the right to work, vote, receive a higher education, hold public office, and continue to strive towards equality and social justice.” IWD allows for a day of deliberate focus on women’s achievements and the challenging of gender biases. Children of all ages find inspiration and courage by celebrating the achievements of women of the past and of the present. GSN's Head of School, Mr. Cavon Ahangarzadeh, supports that "As educators, we must remain at forefront of the movement towards greater social equality for women and girls."
GSN CEO, Jing Chen, shares that, "we are a strong team because of our diversity and inclusion. Our women are a determining factor in the school's success. I am proud of all the women that are a part of Georgia School and cannot imagine the school without them!”
