Book Fair
Each semester, GSN hosts a Book Fair offering books and educational resources, from the United States and the UK, for school aged children and youth. Participants are invited to freely browse the offerings andpurchase books of interest. The book fair was open for three full days, during which students were given an opportunity to participate in the fair at various points throughout the day, enabling thoughtful decisions regarding their next reading adventures.
Reading unlocks the imagination of children, youth and adults, increases insight and factual knowledge, enables the expansion of a child’s vocabulary and has a direct impact on thought-development and writing skill. Reading books is a healthful alternative to screen-time that exercises the mind, improves concentration, and contributes positively to a child’s maturation process.
At GSN Book Fairs students are offered a diverse selection of books from multiple publishers, allowing them to select from various authors and subject areas, which motivates students to create their own home collections of books and to read even more. As GSN’s Librarian, Mr. Darren Panahi mentions, “…book fairs are a great opportunity for students to explore the newest books by their favorite authors and tofind new titles and future favorite authors.” Teachers happilyaccompaniedtheir students to the library, joining in the excitement and wonder of students. PreK4 student, Aiden, had a handful of books he wanted to take home and excitedly mentioned to his teacher, “I want to read all of them, right away.” GSN Lions enjoy exploring for their next read from the realms of fiction and non-fiction, with options ranging from mystery to fantasy, action to adventure, these books have the chance to ignite a passion for learning within children of all ages.
