Education is a Science and an Art
Art education is vital for children of all ages, as it helps in the development multiple areas including communication skills, visual representation of abstract concepts, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Neuroscience research also indicates that art education enhanced brain development across all stages of child development. Georgia School aims to provide a balanced, whole-child, curriculum for students, integrating the wonders of art education. GSN’s artistic reach goes beyond the Ningbo campus.
Recently, GSN entered into a collaborative project with its sister school, School of the Nations, located near the Amazon rainforest in Guyana, South America. This was an opportunity for both schools to enhance artistic experiences for students, through a unique sharing of cultures and art education practices. Dr. Brian O’Toole, Director of School of the Nations, reached out to GSN’s Head of School, Cavon Ahangarzadeh, seeking collaboration among the art teachers at the schools, toward the delivery of a series of Art Seminars to A-Level high school students applying for graduation from School of the Nations. Dr. O’Toole and Mr. Cavon forged their sister school relationship in 2015 and both are extremely pleased to collaborate on academic and service oriented projects.
After being introduced to Dr. O’Toole, GSN’s Art teacher Ms. Samantha Clegg opted to, “give the students a challenge which would help with their abstract thinking and creativity.” Ms. Samantha taught 6 college-level students who were looking to expand their Art portfolio. The syllabus followed by the School of the Nations, Guyana, is Cambridge International AS and AL Level Art and Design, meaning students work on Fine art, Graphic Communication, Three-dimensional design, and Textiles and Fashion throughout the course.
GSN is proud to be involved with School of the Nations and other partner schools around the world towards maximizing student potential and creativity!
