First SBSX Skatepark in China
Now recognized as an Olympic sport, Skateboarding offers multiple physical and mental benefits for students. Awakening a curiosity in children, teenagers, and adults, skateboarding allows everyone to learn at their own pace and places each student in direct competition with themselves as they master moves and develop their own personal flow and style.
GSN’s Head of School, Mr. Cavon Ahangarzadeh, has had a life-long relationship with the sport and confirms that it has a strong, positive impact on leaning and development. As Mr. Cavon mentioned, “As a youth, I found skateboarding to be an artistic expression, a means for rigorous physical activity and a strenuous mental exercise. In skateboarding, one learns to adjust and adapt to circumstance at high speed and to maximize opportunities in the moment. ”
By including skateboarding as part of the school’s curriculum, students are presented with challenges and trained to learn how to effectively work with rules of conduct and performance. The activity also teaches students a respect for the physical world, muscle strengthening, balance and provides multiple levels of challenge for children to work through. Coaches help students develop and solidify a strong sense of self-esteem, focus, physical and mental skills. SBSX certified instructor, Michael Lao, explains that “Skateboarding is closer to an artform than a sport, so one thing I love to see is students trying to do their own individual take on skateboarding, or better yet, using the park in a new creative way.”
GSN’s SBSX Skatepark is also open to the general public on weekends. Come and enjoy a new learning experience! Within skatepark grounds, is a Skateshop with professional skateboarding equipment including safety gear and attire needed. If you are interested, please see the contact information below!
