The day began with an opening ceremony comprised of songs and dances from different countries, performed by students from Kindergarten through Grade 7. The performances were broadcast live for parents and friends to watch online.
Following the show, students, teachers, and staff gathered outside the Music Hall for the Georgia School Parade of Nations. Groups from different countries stood proudly with their flags, dressed in traditional or representative clothing from their home countries. It was an festive gathering of students, teachers and staff, all sharing their love and respect towards all cultures in the school community.
The UN Day Fair took place for the remainder of the school day. Students ‘traveled’ from country to country within different classrooms, receiving a country stamps for each country they visited within their UN Day 2020 passports while learning about each country along their journey. Grade 6 teacher Mrs. Nida Ahangarzadeh mentioned that, “UN Day is a celebration of our world and all the different cultures that make it wonderful! When students study a different country in detail, it broadens their perspectives and allows them to think with a global mindset. This is extremely important for our students because they will one day become our future leaders.”
