Happy Children's Day
June 1st celebrates Children’s Day in China and this Monday morning was filled with smiles as GSN’s students received a surprise gift: a Georgia cap! In 1954, World Children’s Day was established as a way to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and to improve children's welfare. The universal date was designated November 20th, but many countries throughout the world celebrate it at different times. Five years later, in 1959, the United Nations created the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which serve as a base for the needs and care that should be catered to all children. At vulnerable years, kids require support in order to develop a healthy, well-rounded life.
Apart from gifts and games, Children’s Day is also important because it draws attention to the importance of valuing childhood while supporting and educating children of the world. GSN’s Head of School Mr. Cavon recognized that Children’s Day commemorations are “an acknowledgment of vital importance of providing for the welfare and education of children of all nations; the day also represents a celebration and reminder of the wonder, fascination, and excitement of childhood”. During lunchtime, students swarmed into an anxious line as they waited to be served with a delicious bowl of ice cream to sweeten their day. They all cheered and appreciated the dessert with their friends.
