American University Representatives at GSN College Fair!
As the high school years fly by, it becomes standard practice for diligent students to scout universities and familiarize themselves with university requirements and the application process. It is imperative for students to understand what a university offers and how one can fit into campus life. Nowadays, access to the Internet facilitates communication between students and universities, but nothing is as powerful as direct face-to-face contact with university admissions representatives, able to provide information beyond what may be found on websites. At Georgia School Ningbo’s recent university fair, American university representatives spoke directly with students and parents clarifying the application process and providing insightful information regarding the strengths of each school.
For the fourth consecutive year, university representatives were present at Georgia School to enlighten students in regards to processes of admissions, scholarships, tuitions, campus life and extra-curricular activities. The highlight of the college fair was its mysterious unravelling, as in the beginning students were unaware of the names of each institution. Informally titled as a “Blind College Fair”, each booth consisted of only an identification number, there were no materials exposed. A college fair without any brochures, stickers, pins, flags or folders. An intriguing strategy for students to ask questions and to learn about a potential university, without knowing its most important fact – its name. The event was organized with the intent to demystify brand ideas, allowing students to gain a broader perspective in regards to future opportunities as to where they will continue their studies.
During the panel, students had the chance to ask questions about the general requirements for admission, international tuition, visas and scholarship grants. It was a unique chance for high schoolers to gain more knowledge about the application process and an opportunity to understand the importance of a strong academic life. Appreciations, which are a reflective of our Five Agreement Practices, were also shared towards each university. Finally, each representative revealed their school name with flags and banners, along with folders and brochures that contained valuable information that influence a high schooler's decision-making process. With the names revealed and all mystery gone, it was time to get hands on with materials to take home to parents and begin once again a recurring conversation about possible university options.
With intrigued students, approachable representatives and involved teachers, Georgia's “Blind College Fair” was an innate success. The creative touch on its organization allowed students to step out of their comfort zone defined by university branding, introducing new names that many times go off the radar due to its lower popularity. Students were impressed when learning about different states, institution facts and university courses. Positive comments flowed through the hallways along with young excitement and interest. Georgia School Ningbo strives to prepare our students as global citizens, capable of achieving success wherever they choose to go. We look forward to participating in these life-changing decisions and guarantee the required support students need!
