GSN: Face Mask Donation

Tian Xia Yi Jia 天下一家
“Under the heavens we are one family”

This beautiful Chinese phrase is at the core of Georgia School Ningbo’s values and aims. At GSN, we believe that, as world citizens, it is our duty to extend support to those in need. We believe that acts of service and kindness contribute to the building of a better world for all.

Georgia School Ningbo is paying close attention to the ongoing novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) situation and taking all necessary precautions to keep our school community: GSN students, teachers and staff, safe.

On January 29, GSN CEO Jing Chen ordered 66,000 high quality surgical masks from a medical equipment manufacturer in Saint Petersburg, Russia, for donation to hospitals in dire need of surgical masks, in Ningbo. Through a collaborative effort with the Ningbo Red Cross, GSN was quickly able to receive an import permit.

In an effort to demonstrate our immense gratitude and admiration for the heroic Chinese doctors and nurses on the frontlines of this global health crisis, GSN created a dedicated email address for faculty and staff to send their supportive wishes, prayers and love to China’s many heroes. Below are a few of the messages received.

My heart goes out to all the people of Wuhan. I wish them strength and courage during this time. The bravery and commitment of the healthcare professionals has been astounding, they are true heroes. Stay strong, stay unified and stay healthy. Wuhan jia you! 武汉加油!

Primary school is where life-long learning journey begins. We have an exciting year ahead of us. It’s a year of learning, growing, making friends and having fun! Our days will be filled with stories, letters, phonics, numbers, reading, writing and many other engaging activities and fond events. Your child will begin to open the world of reading and learning about the world around us. Kids will read, problem-solve, inquire on various things and investigate the world of science and history.

Throughout the customs process, the Head of the Ningbo Business Women’s Organization, Gao Ping and Head of the Ningbo Customs Office, Chen Xi, assisted in the rapid customs clearance of the imported goods. 66,000 masks were cleared and successfully delivered to Ningbo’s No. 01 and No. 03 Hospitals, by Shunfeng Express.

GSN’s academic plan during school closure:
Due to the postponing of regular school activities, Early Years, Primary and Secondary teachers are utilizing the school’s existing e-learning platforms to communicate and submit assignments and projects. While faculty and staff hope to be back in classrooms as soon as possible, GSN’s long-standing educational technology integration allows students to complete core coursework as scheduled.

GSN appreciates the diligence and care demonstrated by the Chinese government and each of the medical professionals involved in this global issue. We believe that, united, we will all emerge stronger, wiser and healthier.

GSN’s External Influence

At Georgia School Ningbo (GSN), it is our goal to provide students of diverse ages with a wholesome experience that integrates character, humility and citizenship. Through service-learning and with the support of involved teachers and friends, students have a unique opportunity to develop such qualities. Each quarter, Georgia School students will volunteer around the city of Ningbo to fulfill service-learning hours for college applications, GSN Honors Program requirements and for the betterment of the community.

GSN Takes Action
Throughout the past month, students volunteered to collect litter at a new plaza in Jiangbei district, ridding it from hazards and helping enhance its overall public appearance. Since the beginning of the year, China began to implement a new recycling initiative, which highlights how to separate different types of trash and the importance of recycling. Learning about the correct way to handle disposable materials can be tricky at first. To help spread awareness, GSN students were also handing out brochures about trash management and how people can help make the environment a better place through small actions.

Clean Up, Grow Up
Service-learning is a gateway to blooming leadership for students because it allows them to work independently and create connections with others. Other values developed through service-learning projects are communication skills and work ethics, which are useful and integral characteristics for future leaders.Georgia’s quarter 2 Service-Learning Day will take place in December, with more help from students and teachers to care for and help our community!  We look forward to support our students through many projects and to watch them grow into global citizens that make a difference in the world!

Blood Drive

GSN is proud to actively participate in the charitable work of the China Charity Federation (CCF).  Year after year, GSN families donate their time and resources to assist families in need across China, through the CCF. As our school year approaches its end, we present, to parents, another unique opportunity to impact the lives of children and families in need across the countries. On Thursday, June 6th, a blood drive was hosted on campus at ISN for teachers, staff, and parents.  High School students over 18 years of age were welcomed to participate as well, with parent permission.

Special Thanks
to GSN Grade 12 student, Hadi Beveridge, for his involvement in facilitating this Blood Drive event.  Hadi’s efforts to connect GSN with the Jiangbei Health Bureau’s Blood Drive program fostered a spirit of collaborative service among our organizations.  Hadi is approaching graduation from GSN and is in the final stages of obtaining his Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout Badge Award.  This is the highest rank achievable within the Boy Scouts organization.  A few other notable Eagle Scout recipients include: Film director, Steven Spielberg; NYC Mayor, Michael Bloomberg; First man on the moon US Astronaut, Neil Armstrong; Gerald Ford, 38th President of the US.  Hadi’s assistance in coordinating our Blood Drive contributes to the achievement of his Eagle Scout award.  However, in speaking with Hadi it is clear that Hadi’s main objective in participating in this event is to offer an act of service to the people of China, in appreciation for all of his wonderful experiences while living in China!  Hadi departs Ningbo for university in July.
